Advances/Loans

para 68 B: Withdrawal from the Fund for the purchase of a dwelling house/flat or for the construction of a dwelling house including the acquisition of a suitable site for the purpose.

Eligibility: 
1.The member should have completed 5 years membership in the fund.
2.The member's own share of contributions with interest thereon in the amount standing to                  his credit in the Fund should not be less than one thousand rupees.
3..A declaration from the member that the dwelling site or the dwelling house/flat or the 
 house under construction is free from encumbrances and the same is under title of the 
 member or spouse.

Para 68 BB: Withdrawal from the Fund for repayment of Loans in special cases.

Eligibility:
1.The member should have completed 10 years membership in the Fund.
2.The member's own share of contributions with interest thereon in the amount standing to                  his credit in the Fund should not be less than one thousand rupees.
3.The member should produce a certificate or such other documents indicating the 
particulars of the member, the loan granted, the outstanding principal and interest of the 
loan.

NB: The payment under this paragraph shall be made directly to such agency on receipt of an authorization from the member.

Para 68 BC: Withdrawal/financing from the Fund for the purchase of a dwelling house/flat or the construction of a dwelling house including the acquistion of a suitable site by the member.

Para 68 H:In case a factory or an establishment has been locked up or closed down for more than fifteen days and its employees are rendered unemployed without any compensation or in case an employee does not receive his wages for a continuous period of two months or more, these being the reasons other than strike, the member is eligible for one or more non recoverable advances from his provident fund account.

Para 68 J: Advance from the fund for illness in certain cases. The member will be allowed to avail non refundable advances from his account in the fund in cases of :

1. hospitalisation lasting for one month or more, or 
2. Major surgical operation in a hospital or 
3. Suffering from T.B., Leprosy, Paralysis, cancer, mental derangement or heart ailment 
and having been granted leave by the employer for treatment.

The amount of advance under this para is six months of member's basic wages or his own share of contribution with interest thereon which ever is less.

Para 68 K: Advance from the Fund for marriages or post matriculation education of children.  The member will be allowed to avail 50% of his or her own share  of contribution with interest thereon for his or her own marriage, the marriage of his or her own daughter, son, sister,brother, or for the post matriculation education of his or her son or daughter.

Eligibility: 
1. The member has to complete seven years of membership in the Fund.
2.The member's own share of contributions with interest thereon in the amount standing to                  his credit in the Fund should not be less than one thousand rupees.
3. Not more than three advances will be admissible under this para.

Para 68 L: Grant of Advances in abnormal conditions:  If a member whose property, movable or immovable has been damaged by a calamity of exceptional nature, such as floods, earthquakes or riots, is eligible for an advance of  rupees 5 thousand or 50 % of his own total contribution including interest thereon, which ever is less.

Eligibility: 
1. The State Government has declared that the calamity has affected the general public..
2.The member produces a certificate from appropriate authority to the effect that his 
property has been damaged as a result of the calamity.
3. The application for advance has to be made within a period of four months from the                        date of declaration of the calamity.

Para 68 N: Grant of Advance to members who are physically handicapped.

A member who is physically handicapped, may be allowed a non refundable advance from his account in the fund, for purchase of an equipment required to minimise the hardship on account of handicap.

Eligibility: 
1. The member has to produce a medical certificate from a competent medical practitioner                  to the effect that he is physically handicapped.
2.The amount admissible under this para issix months basic wages and dearness allowance                  or the members own share of contribution  with interest thereon jor the cost of the                                equipment which ever is the least.
3. No second advance under this para shall be allowed within a period of three years from                    the date of payment of an advance allowed under this paragraph.

Claim Rejection

Common reasons for Claim Rejection.

1. Details not visible on Bank Passbook.
2.Self Photo uploaded instead of Cancelled Cheque.
3.Member Name not printed on cancelled Cheque.
4.Difference of IFSC codes on Cancelled Cheque and KYC details.
5.No balance in the EPF Account.

Hence, submit your claims properly for better service from EPFO. Filing of claims with care will serve you better.

ECR Filing

ECR FILING AND PAYMENT OF CONTRIBUTION:FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Q1. What is an Electronic Return cum - Challan (ECR)?

Every Establishment covered under EPF & MP Act, 1952 has to electronically file information after close of every wage regarding the number of employees employed, their UAN, EPF A/c.No., their EPF/EPS wages, contributions due under the three Schemes on such wages and the administrative charges due, wage disbursal date, particular of new employees joining and existing members leaving service and excluded employees.

The ECR facility on unified portals allows the employer to perform the above important statutory duty.

After creating the above information in ECR, the employer can use the Challan process for payment of the contributions & Administrative charges declared by him.

Q2. What is the relief announced by EPFO on 30th April, 2020 with regards to ECR process?

ECR can now onwards be created by the employer without the need of simultaneous payment of contributions which may be paid later by the employer after creating the ECR.

Q3. How the payment can be made later on after filing the ECR?

The ECR created by the employer furnishing the statutory information will not lapse and shall always be available at future date for reference to complete the payment.

Q4.Whether damages will be leviable for delayed deposits?

No damages will be liable if deposits are made with in the stipulated time as declared by the Central Government.

UAN&KYC

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 



Q1. What is Universal Account Number (UAN)?

UAN is a 12 digit number provided to each member of EPFO
The UAN acts as an umbrella for the multiple IDs allotted to an individual.
This number acts as a pivot to link multiple member identification  numbers allotted to a single member under single Universal Account Number.

UAN duly seeded with KYC details, enables the member to avail various online services directly without the intervention of the employer.

Q2. What is KYC?

Know your Customer or KYC is a one-time process which helps in identity verification of subscribers(EPF) through linking of UAN with KYC details.

The Employees/Employers need to provide KYC details viz. Aadhaar, PAN, Bank Account details etc for unique identification of the employees enabling seamless online services.

Q3. How an Employer can generate UAN for newly joined employee not having UAN?

The employer has to login to EPF employer portal using the Establishment ID and password and follow the below steps.
     
        * Click on the "Register Individual " button and mention the previous employment as "NO".
        * Now go to the member section
           enter employees details such as Aadhaar, PAN, Bank details etc.
           Approve all the details in the 'Approval ' Section
           A new UAN is generated by EPFO and the employer can link the PF account with UAN of the
           employee.
Q4. How can an employee generate his UAN on his own?

An employee can generate his own UAN by visiting the unified member portal
https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.in/memberinterface' and clicking on link Direct UAN Allotment by employees.  A valid Aadhaar Number with registered mobile number is pre-requisite to avail this facility.  Employee has to provide employment details to obtain UAN.

Q5. How can a member know his UAN?

        * Visit Unified Member Portal.
        * Select Member ID, Aadhaar and PAN
        * Enter details such a name, date of birth, mobile number and email-id as per EPFO records.
        * Click on the " Get  authorization Pin" option.
        * PIN will be sent to your registered mobile number with EPFO.
        * Enter the PIN and your UAN will be sent to your mobile number.

Q6. How can a member activate his UAN?

        * Visit EPFO member portal and click on "Activate UAN" or UAN Activation under Employee  Centric Services of EPFO on UMANG APP

       * Select any one  of the following - UAN, Member ID, Aadhaar or PAN
       * Fill additional details such as Name, date of birth, Mobile number and email id and click on
         " Get Authorization Pin".
       * An authorization Pin will be sent to your  mobile number registered with EPFO.
       * Enter this pin and click on " Validate OTP and Activate UAN".

UAN will be activated and a password will be sent to your mobile number. Now the member can log in to unified Member Portal using his UAN and password.

Q7. Can one mobile number be linked with multiple UANs?

  No, One mobile number can be used for registration with one UAN only.

Q8.  Is it possible to activate UAN via offline mode?

No. UAN registration and activation is done through online mode only.

Q9.  Can contractual employees register their UAN and avail online facilities?

Both Contractual as well as direct employees can avail UAN facilities online after registration and activation.

Q10. In which format I should create my UAN Password?

The password should be alphanumeric, have minimum 1 special character, with 8-25 characters long.
For example: raj@1234.

Q11. What should I do if my UAN is not seeded with Aadhaar?

Member can himself seed UAN with Aadhaar by visiting member portal.  There after the employer must approve the same to complete the linkage process.  Alternatively the member can request the employer to link the Aadhaar with UAN.

The member can use "e-KYC Portal" under Online services available on home page of EPFO official website or e-KYC service under EPFO in UMANG APP to link his/her UAN with Aadhaar without employer's intervention.

Q12. My UAN was generated during the initial days after launch of UAN facility.  But my employer erroneously linked it with wrong Aadhaar Number.  How can I correct the same?

 Member has to apply for correction to Regional Office of EPFO, where his/her EPF a/c is maintained through submission of Joint Request i.e. from both employee and employer.

Q13. How can I seed my KYC details with  UAN?

      *  Login to your  EPF account at the unified member portal.
      * Click on the "KYC" option in the "Manage" section.
      * You can select the details ( PAN, Bank Account, Aadhaar etc) which you wish to link with UAN.
      * Fill in the requisite fields.
      * Now click on the "save" option.
      * Your request will be displayed in " KYC pending for approval".
      * Once employer approves the details the message will be changed to " Digitally approved by the           employer".
      * Once UIDAI confirms your detail, "verified by UIDAI" is displayed against your Aadhaar.

Q14.  How can I seed my bank account details?
   
      * Login to your EPF account at the unified member portal.
      * Enter your bank account number and IFSC code.
      * The details have to be approved by your employer.
      * Once approved the bank account gets seeded.

Q15. Can I change my already seeded bank account number?

Yes the bank account number can be updated any number of times by following the steps mentioned above. However, the bank account particulars cannot be changed during pendency of any claim with EPFO.

Q16. What precautions should I take while seeding bank account number?

You should seed only active bank account to which either you are individual or joint account holder along with your spouse.  Also ensure that the bank account does not have a deposit cap greater than your withdrawal limit.

Q17. I have changed my Job.  Should I activate my UAN again?

UAN is activated only once.  There is no need to re-activate UAN every time you switch jobs.

Q18.  Do I have to pay any fee for UAN registration?

No. UAN registration is free of cost and there is no need  to pay any fee.

Q19. Can I activate UAN through SMS or mobile APP?

You cannot activate UAN through SMS.  However, you can activate UAN through UMANG APP.  To download the APP please visit google playstore.

Q20. What are the documents required for change in Date of Birth of EPF members?

Any of the below mentioned documents may be accepted as valid proof for Date of Birth.

          * Birth Certificate issued by Registrar of Births and Deaths.
          * Any School/Education related Certificates. 
          * Certificates based on the service records of the Central/State Government Organisations.
          * Passport
          * Any other reliable document issued by a Government Department.
          * In the absence of proof of date of birth as mentioned above, Medical Certificate issued by Civil Surgeon after examining the member medically and supported               with an affidavit on oath by the member duly authenticated by a competent court.
          * Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar:
             The change in date of birth shall be accepted as per Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar upto a maximum range of plus or minus three years the date of birth recorded earlier with               EPFO.

Q21.  What are the facilities provided for the member through UAN driven member portal?

The UAN driven member portal facilitates the following to the members:

1. Services:
           * Self-generation of Universal Account Number. 
           * E-Nomination.
           * change in Name, Date of Birth, Gender
           * Enter KYC details
           * seamless transfer of PF accumulations from past employment.
           * Aadhaar based online claim submission.
           * Entry of date of exit from service. 
           
2. Information:
           * Download Passbook
           * Download UAN Card.
           * PF contributions & Balance by sending SMS to 7783299899 in 10 languages.
           * PF account details by missed call on 011-22901406.


Q22. Do I need to upload documents on the EPFO Portal?

No, you are not required to upload any documents on the EPFO Portal. Just the name as per the documents and the document number should be specified.

Q23. What are the minimum details which are required to be linked with UAN for availing online services?

Mobile, Aadhaar and Bank Account Number.

Q24. Is linking PAN with UAN beneficial for availing online services?

Yes, if you link your PAN number with UAN then you can avail tax benefits on PF withdrawals.

Q25. My name is same in PAN card and Aadhaar but I am not able to link it with my UAN, why?

The name as per  PAN and Aadhaar must be same as that in PF records for KYC to be successfully completed.  If there is a name mismatch then a name change request can be raised.

Q26. What to do if my employer is not approving KYC?

If your employer is not approving KYC, then you can directly contact EPF field office with a request.  If it is taking more time then you can escalate it to the higher authorities in the organisation.
If no one is responding to your request, then you can approach EPFgrievence via http://epfigms.gov.in.

Q27 How do I know that the KYC updated by me is approved by the employer?

The status will be shown against updated KYC document on the same page.  The system will also trigger SMS on your registered mobile number.

Q28 My employer erroneously entered wrong PAN and Bank account details.

You can login to your member portal and update the PAN and Bank account details yourself.  The same will be digitally approved/updated by the employer.

Q29 My employer has not updated my date of exit despite lapse of 2 months after leaving job.  How can I update my date of exit?

          * Visit member unified portal.
          * Enter UAN, Password and Captcha.
          * Go to "Manage" and click mark exit 
          * Choose PF "Account Number" from 'select employment' drop down 
          * Enter 'date of exit' and 'Reason for exit'.
          * Click on option "Request  OTP" and enter OTP sent to your Aadhaar linked registered mobile number.
          * Select the checkbox.
          * Click "Update"
          * Click "OK".

Q30 How do I change my UAN linked mobile number?

After login into the Member Interface of Unified Portal, there is a provision in 'Member Profile' section to change your mobile number.

Q31 Can I apply online claim if my mobile is not linked with Aadhaar?

No, you cannot submit online claim if your mobile is not linked with Aadhaar.  At the time of claim submission, OTP is sent to Aadhaar linked mobile only.

Q32 What to do if my Aadhaar is not linked with mobile?

Please visit your nearest Aadhaar Service Centre.  For more details you can visit official website of UIDAI http://uidai.gov.in

Q33 What to do if I forgot my password?

Please click on "Forgot Password" at Member Interface of Unified Portal.  Provide UAN with captcha. System will send the OTP on your mobile which is seeded with UAN and you can reset the password.

Q34 What to do if I forgot my password and my registered mobile with UAN has also changed?

Please click on "Forgot Password" at Member Interface of Unified Portal.  Provide UAN with captcha. System will send the OTP on your mobile which is seeded with UAN and you can reset the password.  System will ask basic details ( Name, DOB and gender).  After successful matching of basic details system will prompt to provide your Aadhaar or PAN.  If KYC details are matched system will ask new mobile number and OTP will be sent to the new mobile.  After successful verification of OTP, you can reset the password.

Q35 What is to be done in case I change my job and join somewhere else?

You need to simply declare your UAN with your subsequent employer.

Q36 Which claims that can be filed online?

You can file withdrawal, Advances, Pension claims online through EPFO Member portal or through UMANG App.

Q37 How can I view or download my passbook?

You need to first login with your valid UAN and Password. Then go to "Download" Menu and select "Download Passbook".  A link will be provided to download the passbook in PDF format.
